Vision Boarding 101
The new year is here and it’s the perfect time to set our intentions for the year! A fresh start, a rebirth, a time for new beginnings. Maybe vision boarding is new to you, maybe you’ve heard of it, maybe you’ve even done it before, but vision boarding is something we fully put our hearts and souls into—I mean, you should see some circa 2015 vision boards compared to where I’m at in my life now…pure manifestation.
With it being the new year and everyone’s goals and intentions flying all around us, you might feel unclear about what you want because you feel influenced by other people sharing their goals. Vision boarding will help make your own personal goals in varying areas clear to you.
For some background information: vision boarding is a visual representation of your goals and aspirations, and allows us to put our intentions into the universe while expressing them creatively. This practice provides free-range to express what you want for yourself and your future through a collage of images and words. Vision boarding will help give you a clear direction for where you want to go in different areas of your life. Creating a physical vision board that represents your desired future is a constant reminder of what your priorities are. In the end, the board serves as a daily reminder of what you want to achieve and help motivate you to make your visions a reality.
Our favorite way to vision board is a night with friends and some good ol wine. This creates a positive environment, builds relationships, and promotes creativity. All you’ll need is a stack of magazines (the more the merrier!) and enough scissors, glue sticks, and poster boards for everyone. Go into it understanding what you’re hoping this year will bring you but don’t be too specific about what you want—allow the images and words to speak you and be creative with your board. Flip through the magazine and rip or cut out whatever is calling to you. Once you have all your pieces, lay them out on your board how you want them to look in the final production. After that you’ll glue accordingly and watch your vision board come to life. My favorite part? Once everyone’s put their vision boards together, share them with each other and watch as each person’s personality and creativity comes through their board.
Once you’re all done, we strongly suggest putting it somewhere that you’ll see it every day as a daily reminder of your dreams and goals. I personally like to keep mine in my closet/on the back of my closet door because I know this is a place I will see every day, but feel free to put yours wherever you’d like! We want to be able to see it because this allows us to practice visualization, which is one of the most popular and effective mind workouts that you can do.
Up top you’ll see my vision board from 2022 :-)
You’ll notice I included different sections for varying areas of my life that I wanted to fulfill for 2022. I had a section for affirmations to say to myself each day—holy game changer. I added my love for the great outdoors and traveling, ultimately saying I wanted to continue to appreciate and explore new places. I included my love for the Earth and sustainability. I added “HOST” because I love hosting and bringing people together. I included my love for healthy living to focus on my goals to maintain that mentality. I think this is my favorite vision board so far but stay tuned for vision board 2023 :-)
