INGREDIENTS
dry bread cubes bread :: amount depends on how much you need
day old/slightly stale works best, but any will do
oil :: we recommend spray
spices :: any of your choosing, today we’re using thyme, sage, and salt
INSTRUCTIONS
start by preheating your oven to 250 degrees.
if you’re making breadcrumbs for your thanksgiving stuffing you’ll need ~16 cups of bread cubes, but if you just need some breadcrumbs for a salad for two, you only need about 2-3 cups of bread cubes.
using a serrated bread knife, cut the bread into cubes, about ½" to ¾" cubed pieces, and lay them on a baking sheet. preferably in a single layer, but if they don’t all fit, it may just take longer to bake.
bake in the oven for about an hour, tossing them a few times to make sure they dry all the way through. again, it may take a little longer if your bread is layered. in the final 20 minutes, do a light spray of olive oil and add in your seasonings—we’re using sage, thyme, and salt this time.
remove your breadcrumbs from the oven once they are completely dried out. if you’re making these ahead of time, let them cool completely then transfer to an airtight container and store at room temperature for up to 1 week.
